One of my favorite quotes is from Ellis “Red” Redding in The Shawshank Redemption. Towards the end of the movie he says “Get busy living, or get busy dying.” I always think about that phrase when I am suffering from bouts of laziness, and it always helps me find another gear.
During my early adulthood I served as a Paratrooper in the US Army. I deployed to Iraq and spent 16 months there in service to my country. I learned a lot while there, not the least of which was the fact that human beings have a unique capacity for cruelty. I also learned that beauty can be found in the most unassuming places.
This site, and the work I am doing here, is something of a passion project. bullets2bokeh is a philosophy for me. What it means is simply that we are more than the some of our past experiences. Just like bokeh will blur the background of an image, this site is a way for me to blur my own background. I want to find the beauty in life and share it with you all. Whether that is through the photos I take, or through the words I write.
We all have portions or moments in our own backgrounds that could use a little blurring. My confident expectation is that the content of this site will help you along your own journey to finding the beauty in your own life, so that you can get busy living.
